Located in the historic premises of the Fort on Ile Saint – Helene near Montreal, the museum takes you on a nostalgic trip down memory lane and brings to life the history of Canada and Europe.
This museum takes you back into the past. It brings you four centuries of Canadian and European history It captures vividly the rivalry between the British and the French. Actors donning period costumes enact a live performance. Established in 1955, it occupies the stone arsenal building of the fort. Over the years it has build up a formidable collection of artistic treasures. Through its exhibition, education and program activities, the Stewart Museum endeavors to define relationships through different history, social, political, military, scientific and technological themes, as well as, the interplay between the old and new worlds. Exhibits include household and scientific objects, weaponry, antique maps, antiquarian books and engravings, navigational aids and archival material.
Opening hours :
10:00am to 6:00pm everyday from May 1st to September 1st
10:00am to 5:00pm, closed on Tuesdays from September 2nd to April 30th
