Montreal is the second biggest city of Canada, and the capital of the province Quebec. Montreal is famous for its rich culture and is also considered the liveliest city in North America. The important city

Montreal is an island located on St. Lawrence River; it has been an important entry point to the province. Hochelaga was the village, where later on Montreal developed. The main airport serving Montreal is Pierre Elliott Trudeau, which lies on the west side of the city and is at a half hour drive from the city. Its location makes Montreal a very important city not only from economic point of view but also for those who plan to visit it due to its numerous attractions.

Divided by the famous boulevard Saint Laurent

Montreal is divided into two halves by the famous boulevard Saint Laurent, with east and west sides lying on both either sides. The city is best explored by foot, and to see the crowded downtown. The old town has narrow streets, and is a place not to miss. The down town area is packed with people in the summer months. Winters usually see lesser number of tourists and visitors, as they are quite harsh. The 'Underground City' which is called 'RESO' is an ideal place to visit in the winter season, with its shopping centers, pedestrian corridors which also connect to the subway and office complexes. St. Catherine Street is the most famous and the busiest street in Montreal.

Streets and places in Montreal

Most of the major shopping malls, office complexes, department stores, and theatre complexes are accessible from this street. Most of the famous hotels can also be found on either side of the famous street. This is the liveliest and happening street of the city and is full of restaurants, bars, dance clubs and many entertainment places. The McGill College Boulevard located in the core of downtown gives a fabulous view of the Mount Royal at its north side and the Place Ville Marie on the south side. Some of the famous tourist attractions in Montreal are the Old Montreal, China Town, Plateau Mount Royal, St. Joseph's Oratory, Basilique Notre Dam, Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal Biosphere and the Underground City. The city offers a variety of things to do and activities in all seasons. The winters offer cross country skating and Ice skating. Other seasons are best for Canoeing, kayaking and River Surfing. Montreal is a festival city, you can find some thing or the other taking place at every time of the year, ranging from international festivals to day long ethnic affairs.
